Welcome to the London Mets Youth Baseball & Softball programme. We are a local club based at Finsbury Park in London. We offer a chance for boys and girls to learn Baseball and Fastpitch Softball in a fun, supportive, team environment. We are now taking registrations for our 2020 Spring Season, which runs from April to June.
Youth Baseball in London
The London Mets offers four divisions of youth Baseball in London. We play on weekends at Finsbury Park. Most of our Baseball divisions play on Saturdays. Our Fastpitch Softball programme plays on Sundays.
We follow the Little League Baseball structure. During the Spring Season, players are organized into teams and play a series of inter-league games. After the end of the regular season, we form All-Star teams (for those that are interested) and compete in a number of tournaments, including the UK Little League Championships and the British Baseball Federation (BBF) Youth National Baseball Championships.
The Mets have enjoyed great success in tournaments over the years. In 2016, we were the UK Little League Champions in both the Juniors & Seniors divisions, and runners-up in the Majors division. In 2017, we won the Juniors division and we were runners-up in Majors and Seniors. We are the reigning BBF UK champions in U15 and U17 divisions.
Our Minors division is a more informal programme, which typically involves training as well as friendly games. In this division, we aim to introduce the children to the basic rules and skills of baseball but with an emphasis above all on having fun, learning to be part of a team, and learning to love the game. There is a combination of coach and player pitching and we use instructional equipment like batting tees where appropriate.
We also offer mid-week training. This typically happens after-school hours, where our youth players have the opportunity to be coached by our youth Baseball coaches, as well as by members of our 1st division (National Baseball League) adult teams. Many of the members of our NBL teams have come from our youth programme. We also typically have a few “import players” who are recent University graduates who have come to play in London for the summer. More details on this will be sent out as the season draws near.
Which Division (Baseball only)?
When you complete our registration form, you will be asked for your child’s date of birth and to provide any preference you may have for the division in which he/she will play. See the table below for a basic guide.
The timings shown are subject to change. Games for majors run roughly two hours and players will not necessarily be in action for all of each session.
Please note that we offer a 25% discount for local youth on Little League fees, and a £10 discount for siblings. All players receive a London Mets jersey and London Mets baseball cap.
The Little League rules have some overlap, which means that for some kids we can work with you to find the right level for them. If your child is eligible to play in more than one division (based on their age), we’ll be in touch to talk about it. Our goal is that players are matched with players with similar abilities, so that they all have the best possible chance to enjoy the game while they develop their individual talents.

Coaches at the London Mets are among the best that the UK has to offer. We have a number of coaches with ten or more years’ experience working with youth Baseball players. We are a competitive club that believes in the value of working hard to improve as an individual, and as a team, and that learning to win and lose teaches young people important life lessons. Many of our coaches have come directly from our youth programmes. Several of our players have gone on to play at the highest levels in the UK and beyond, many have played for Team GB in International Competitions.
The London Mets is run entirely by volunteers. All of our fees are used to cover the costs of running our club and investing in our programmes and our facilities. We really need parents to get involved in coaching, administration, fundraising, merchandise, catering, photography, field maintenance, reporting, publicity, scoring and umpiring. If you would like to volunteer, which we would greatly appreciate, please indicate this on your registration form.
The London Mets collect fees by direct debit. Most returning families have already authorised a direct debit to the club. If you have not already done so, after registering, you will receive an email from our service provider, GoCardless. Please click on the link in that email and follow the instructions to authorise the direct debit mandate. We will debit the season's fees to your account on or around 7th March.
About Direct Debits
Using direct debits simplifies our administration, reduces our costs, and enables us to offer flexible payment arrangements. With a direct debit mandate in place, players will also be able to buy merchandise and other items at winter training or at the field without having to carry cash. Our service provider for direct debits is GoCardless.com, whose customers include the Guardian Newspaper and Greater Anglia Trains. All direct debit arrangements with London Mets benefit from the Direct Debit Guarantee (https://gocardless . com/direct-debit/guarantee/). In particular, you will receive an email notification three days prior to any payment, and if you believe a payment has been taken in error, you can request an immediate refund.
